Certificate Programs
(CBN/Placentia Bay)

A certificate program is a government-regulated program that consists of a 4-day classroom training course followed by a minimum of 10.5 hours of in-car training. Students who complete a certificate program are eligible to attempt their road test 8 months from their NL permit issue date (rather than the standard one year), and are eligible for discounts with insurance companies. A certificate is issued once students have successfully completed all components of the training curriculum to a satisfactory level. Note: Customers who have a valid (not expired) license from another country are exempt from a waiting period. You must have a physical copy of your license here with you in NL.

Early is best. We recommend enrolling in a certificate program no more than 3-4 months after obtaining your Class 5 Learner's License. This is especially important for students who will need in-car training appointments at "high-demand" times (i.e. outside of school hours). These time slots can be booked up for weeks in advance. If you'd like to get your license on or very near your eligibility date, early enrollment is key! Customers who are more flexible with appointment times do not necessarily need to enroll as early. We have three package options for our certificate program. The package you choose should reflect your level of driving experience and your ability to practice on your own time. ***Most customers in your area go with the Standard or Premium Package. Very rarely is the Ultimate Package necessary.

Standard Package ($925 + tax): 4-day classroom course + 10.5 hours in-car training. Most suitable for customers who have adequate driving experience, regular access to a vehicle, and/or those who are able to practice frequently between lessons. NOT recommended for customers who have minimal to no driving experience in Canada/NL and/or those who are not able to practice in between lessons.

Premium Package ($1125 + tax): 4-day classroom course + 15 hours in-car training. Most suitable for customers who require (or want) more in-car training than the minimum amount, customers who drive a little (but infrequently), customers who have access to a vehicle for regular practice (but haven't done much practicing yet), customers who lack driving confidence, and/or customers who have adequate driving experience from another country (but no local experience). If you have never driven before and have no access to a vehicle to practice on your own time, this package may not be sufficient.

Ultimate Package ($1525 + tax): 4-day classroom course + 22.5 hours in-car training. Most suitable for customers who have no driving experience and no access to a vehicle to practice on their own time. For students who are new to Canada/NL, this package would also be suitable if your experience elsewhere is nonexistent or very limited.

The following classroom courses are currently available for registration. Students must attend all four days of classroom instruction to meet the government requirement. Please ensure you are fully available on the dates for which you register.

• May 10/11 + 17/18 (virtual)

• June 21/22 + 28/29 (virtual)

• July 31 + Aug 1/2/3 (virtual)

Online classes are live virtual classes via Google Meet. Classes start at 8:30am and end at approximately 3:30pm. 

In-car training is scheduled once the classroom course has been completed.
